Language & People

You will have no trouble being understood in English, in spite the fact that St. Lucia is an old French colony.  The official  language is English, even though French Creole or Patios is widely used by St. Lucia's 160.000 inhabitants.

Roughly speaking,  about 85% of all St. Lucians are of pure African decent.

A small percentage are of mixed African, British, French, East Indian, and Carib origin, and two small groups are from pure East Indian and European decent.
