UK Tourism - 4 Cities You Have To Visit
by Mark Thomas Walters

If you focus too long on the weather, you might
think that the United Kingdom is a bit of a drab, dull
place. Look beyond the weather, though, and you'll
see a vibrant nation with thousands of years worth
of culture, development and history behind it. We've
put together this guide for people thinking of visiting
the UK to take you through the four capital cities of
the UK's component parts - England, Wales,
Scotland and Northern Ireland - and prove that
it really does offer something for everyone.

London is the capital of the UK and it's situated in
south-east England. It's conside- red to be one of
the major cities of the world and is jam -packed
with
things for tourists to do.
You could pay a visit to the Houses of Parliament,
walk along Whitehall and see the famous black door
outside 10 Downing Street, or perhaps visit
Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the
guard. There are also loads of museums, theatres,
restaurants, tours and other attractions that are
sure to keep you entertained.

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland. In 2004 it
became a UNESCO City of Literature and in 2009
was voted the best place to live in the UK, so it's
definitely worth visiting if you get chance. If you're
looking for attractions to visit then you should
definitely check out Edinburgh Castle, which
overlooks the city and is over 1000 years old. You
could visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, a royal
residence with a great art collection, or perhaps
visit Edinburgh Zoo to see the famous Penguin
Parade.

A trip to Wales wouldn't be complete without
visiting its capital city, Cardiff. Here you can see the
wonderful Impressionist paintings at the National
Museum Cardiff or enjoy a free lunchtime concert at
the Wales Millennium Center. A visit to Cardiff Bay -
the largest waterfront development in Europe - is
essential. See it by boat ride or go for a walk along
Mermaid Quay. You could also visit The Big
Weekend, a free music festival that also features
the UK's largest traveling funfair.

Northern Ireland may have a somewhat troubled
history, but its capital city of Belfast was recently
announced as the safest city in the UK and so is a
great place to visit. For some fantastic concerts,
check out the Waterfront Hall or, if you're on a
budget, City Hall offers free guided tours. You could
also go on the Titanic boat tour, celebrating
Belfast's achievement in building the Titanic. Saint
Anne's Cathedral is also impressive and is close to
some lovely cafes and galleries.
