Pueblo el Fantasma...The Village of Ghosts
That´s what the Spanish call Acebuchal.
The foreign residents call it The Lost Village or The Abandoned Village.
It was deserted for almost 50 years... (Read the story) but recently
the village has come to life again, the old pueblo-houses are being
carefully restored..and there is a charming little tapas bar where you
can get delicious refreshments when you visit.
Acebuchal is situated about 50 km east of Málaga.

The best thing to do if you want to explore Acebuchal is to stay in the
village of Acebuchal or the near-by beautiful white village of
Frigiliana - only 3-4 km from the Lost Village. You can rent a holiday
home in the area between Frigiliana and Acebuchal - many of them
with private pool - or, if you prefer, in Nerja by the sea.
- To get to Acebuchal leave Frigiliana and go up in the mountains
towards Torrox...at the old Frigiliana - Torrox road
- Approximately 2 km outside of Frigiliana, to your right is a little
wooden sign showing the way to Acebuchal. (Visitors starting
from Torrox Pueblo: just reverse the directions).
The nature is beautiful and it´s well worth a visit.
The area is ideal for hikers, nature lovers, read horses, writers,
painters and those who just love to sit outdoors year round and
enjoy the scenic surroundings. On the other hand, it takes only a 15
minute scenic drive to achieve up to Frigiliana restaurants and shops.
Acebuchal is a microscopically small village, or rather a collection of
houses situated in a very peaceful, beautiful valley inside the
National Park. It is surrounded by fragrant pine trees, thyme and
rose marin ... and the village is no longer abandoned. Acebuchal has
awakened from its long sleep...
